HPGCL, Haryana Power Generation Corporation Ltd was incorporated in the year 1997 and was entrusted with the responsibility of operating and managing the power generation in the state. The Department of Renewable Energy in Haryana

The Department of Renewable Energy, Haryana has the responsibility of forming policies and schemes that are required to popularise the implementation of renewable forms of energy that are available in the state. Schemes that are related to the use of alternative fuels like biogas, biomass, solar energy and micro hydel. It also has the responsibility of implementation of Energy Conservation Act, 2001. To utilise the financial aid provided by the Government of India, nodal agencies have been established under the department of renewable energy including Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA). It has the responsibility to implement local and central schemes pertaining to the renewable and unconventional sources of energy.

Solar Energy in Haryana

Many solar energy policies are in place in Haryana and the government is very serious about implementing solar energy to produce power.

Jawahar Lal Nehru National Solar mission: It is a national mission to reduce costs in achieving grid parity till 2022. The objective of the mission is to take grid connected solar power generation to 22000 MW till 2022.
  • The establishment of large capacity solar and thermal projects producing 5MW to 100 MW of power.
  • Setting up of small capacity solar power projects ranging 100 KW to 2 MW.

Solar Photovoltaic Programme

It is a programme through which the government wants to develop technology to convert solar energy to DC electricity using solar cells. The electricity produced in the process can either be used at the day time or later by storing the energy in the batteries. HAREDA has been given the responsibility of promoting this programme and devices that can be used to power appliances at home.

Solar Thermal programme

This programme is also a part of the solar power mission taken up by HAREDA in Haryana and is promoting the use of a solar water heating system, solar cooker, solar water pumping system etc.

Biomass and Biogas Energy in Haryana

The Haryana government has been a pioneer in implementing the Biomass and Biogas energy usage. There are two programmes - Biogas programme and Bio energy programme. Biogas and biomass are renewable sources of energy and can be procured easily. MNRE 12th, 5 year plan of Biomass gasifier program is underway which also include setting up of an Institutional Bio Gas plant. As biomass is produced by animal dung, organic matters and human excreta, it is easily available from cattle sheds, dairies and stables. HAREDA is implementing this scheme in Haryana with the objective of producing electricity by non-conventional methods so that the burden on conventional fuel is reduced.
  • 105 institutional Bio gas plant have been installed so far in various cattle sheds and stables.
  • Financial assistance of 40% is being given to dairy owners and cattle owners for the establishment of Bio-gas plant.

Haryana Housing BoardThe Haryana Housing Board was established in the year 1971 with the Haryana Housing Board Act coming into existence. This act was published in the extraordinary gadget of the state government.

The objective laid by the board is to build homes and allot them to the general public based on the guidelines and procedures as laid down by the state government. Most of the homes constructed by the Haryana Housing Board are meant for the weaker section of the society. Haryana Police
